Las fuentes cerca de la producción de las tres películas Rápido y Furiosos han dicho que una cuarta entrega de la saga está andando sobre cuatro ruedas. La mejor conjetura es que será presentado en las salas de cine a nivel mundial durante el verano 2008.
El proyecto actualmente esta en “desarrollo” en los estudios Universal, sin fecha de principio de producción clara y ningún director anunciado. Sin embargo, se rumorea que la siguiente película reunirá muchos protagonistas y actores de las primeras tres entregas incluyendo a Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson y Lucas Black. Obviamente la historia otra vez se centrará en los coches tuning, pero el rumor es que esta vez la mayor parte de la acción será puesta en Río de Janeiro, Brasil.
En cuanto a los coches, las expectativas consisten en que alguna maquinaria familiar, como una versión resucitada del 1970 Dodge Charger de la película original, se mezclará con la maquinaria contemporánea como el nuevo Dodge Challenge y el muscle clásico sudamericano, Chevrolet Opala. También se rumorea que el papel protagónico encarnado por Vin Diesel se ubicará detrás de un clásico 1987 Buick GNX.
